Hello Everyone!
After continuous battles with major leaking problems, I consulted witha surgeon yesterday about having a stoma revision done. My original stoma is only about 1/8" above my skin and has periods where it retracts completely. I have some questions and would appreciate any comments. 1) I have a lot of scar tissue/adhesions and getting this done laprascopically is not sounding likely. What should I expect as an estimated recovery time? 2) My original surgeon justified giving me a stumpy little stoma by telling me that I am too fat and my abdominal wall was too thick for him to give me a longer stoma. I don't really understand this. We have feet and feet of ileum. Why could he not just yank out another inch and a half to give me a better stoma to begin with? 3) I am still fat. Given #2 above, what makes my new surgeon think he can do any better? Is there real reason he should think so or is this surgeon ego? -Rae |

Coloplast has a DVD the send out with their intro kits.. the lady they use to show how to empty the pouch is fat, and her stoma looks just fine. Show them that. I'm over weight. My stoma comes out at the fattest part of my belly, they were able to give me a near perfect stoma. Recovery time. off work only a week. but it was lapro.
