Thanks for the insight. Y'all make this sound like going out for a stroll. I am going to print some of the better instructions for future reference!!

Blenda,

I have only had my permanent ostomy for about 4 months but you asked about how to know when it was ready to change and I was told if it is itching or burning you need to change. Otherwise just pick the days you would like to change on a regular basis. I started out changing every couple of days, then went to chaning on Mon and Fri. I now only change on Monday morning unless I feel burning or severe itching. I change in the morning before I eat or drink anything because the stoma is almost inactive then. If I wait until later I have to move really fast because the stoma is more active and you HAVE to make sure your skin is completely clean so you won't get any breakdown.

Good luck,
Janita
