I changed my bag last night and then about 4:00 am I got up to go to the bathroom and I noticed that the area where the bag meets the tupperware part of the wafer was slightly coming apart like torn.
So I had to change the whole thing again with another bag. Is this something I did or was the bag defective. ALso, I have slow healing around the stoma. I saw the nurse and she said that because of the pred I was on for a while, my stitches dissolved before the skin could fully close up or heal around the stoma. So there is a little separation between the stoma and the skin. I hope I explained it right? She showed me how to use the stoma powder to fill the areas and then barrier wipes to dry the powder and then proceed with changing of the bag. She said it might take about 2 weeks for the the site to close up. Does this sound right to you guys? Please help. Hi jblue,
Yes I think your stoma nurse has th right approach to your stoma separation. You may need to change your wafer a little more often while it's healing just to make sure that stool doesn't end up seeping under it and inot the wound. I think you may have had a faulty bag or wafer, or perhaps it just wasn't clipped together properly.Check the rest of the boxes carefully and test them with a couple of different bags to make sure they clip together properly. If you ahve trouble with any of the new ones then contact your supplier who will then send you a replacement box. Good luck and keep us posted. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Thanks Shell- I just needed some reassurance. I am getting the hang of it slowly but surely. I will probably master it by the time I have my takedown....

One thing that helped me feel more secure about the whole thing was the belt (I used Hollister products). It kept the bag connection comfortably depressed (especially at night) and pushed the appliance into the skin enough to bring the stoma "forward".
