Okay I've got a trip to London, Paris, and parts of Italy coming up in two weeks! I use hydrogen peroxide for odor control. Is it unreasonable to bring a bottle with me in my carry on and claim it as a medical supply. I'm not checking any luggage and I'd really like to be fully stocked in case I can't find what I need when I get to London. I'm travelling with my sister and really don't want my odor to be a bother to her....not that she would complain. But I want this trip to feel as smooth and non-medical as possible.
Is it too demanding to insist that all my normal supplies should be necessary for the flight if in theory I could find some when I get there? does anyone travel with a medical note or do you just pack like everyone else and fly under the radar at the airport? -Marcene perm. Marcene,
Good for you! How fun! I wish I had some useful info for you. You are always so incredibly supportive and helpful to people on this site. The only thing I suggest would be to ask ask ask until you get an answer. Try your GI, travel agent, and post something on this site under "General Discussion." It seems to me that hydrogen peroxide would be an easy thing to find in Europe and I wouldn't want to deal with the potential hassles of explaining to airport security why you need to carry it in your bag. A pharmacist should be able to tell you how to find it in Europe. Are you staying in a hotel? Perhaps you could ask them if they carry it? Have you called the airline and asked them what would be required in your situation? Sorry I can't be of more help. I don't have an ileostomy (yet?) and I don't travel much, so I would start by making a ton of calls to get more info from people who do know. Hope you have a fun, safe journey! I put a small amount of hydrogen peroxide in a little bottle & put it in my 3-1-1 zip-lock bag when I went for a short trip.
If you need more than 3 oz., I would take the full bottle & just take it out & put it separately in the bin at the security checkpoint(like I do with contact lenses solution). Peroxide is fairly cheap, so it's not a huge loss if they disallow it. I'm also pretty sure they sell peroxide lots of places in London. Have a wonderful trip! |

Take a one once bottle with you and then buy it in London in any pharmacy...they call them Chemists there and yes they have it..no problem..Paris also does, it is called 'eau oxygené'...and cheap and easy to find..we don't have as many carry on restrictions but if the odour problem is for the 'bathroom' odour..then there is something so much cheaper and easier to carry on..a box of matches...just light one after every visit and the sulphur burns away the odour! Most Europeans used them before the arrival of air freshener..Which now makes your sh-t smell like sh-tty roses
Sharon ps..if you need any tips for Paris..let me know It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here.... |
