Permanent Ileostomy Performance after J-Pouch Removal?

Hi

I've pretty much decided that I want to go to a permanent ileostomy and get rid of my jpouch.

My main question is, how will performance compare to when I had an end ileostomy after my first surgery? I know it'll be better than when I had a loop ileostomy before takedown.

I'm guessing I'll be 6-12 inches of small bowel worse off as compared to when I had the full intestine behind the end ileostomy after step 1. Any difference?

I'm keen to put on weight and eat most foods again. I also don't want to be forever emptying as I was with the loop ileo.

Please advise Smiler

Keep smiling,
AQ

I don't know about you but I'm scheduled for jpouch removal on Dec 13 but with my temp ileo, I was emptying about 8 times a day, which seemed like a lot but in retrospect really wasn't. With an end ileo because there is more of the small intestine being used, my understanding is that the stool will be more formed than with the loop ileo (longer travelling time) and due to the longer travelling time MAYBE fewer empties. More importantly looking forward to getting off the drugs and no longer knowing what "glass ass" or "firreah" feel like.

I went from j-pouch to permanent ileostomy a year ago. After getting used to each other, getting a good seal around the stoma I have to say lifeis better than it has been in years. I empty 4-5 times a day. I eat everything, crave spicy food I couldn't have with j-pouch. With j-pouch I couldn't gain weight, was 100 lbs and so thin. I have gained 18 lbs and feel and look great. No more bones showing. Use M-9 deodorizer in your pouch, cut the hole tight to stoma, use paste if you need to do so. Life is good. Praise the Lord!!!

Life is great after the j-pouch is gone. I eat anything I want and just take two immodium a half hour before a meal. A banana also works great at reducing emptying. The only problem I have had is repeated prolapse of the stoma. When the j-pouch is gone, the sickness is and so is the meds. If only I could keep the stoma in!

I'm ten years post perm ileo after failed j-pouch - end ileo is a dream. I empty maybe four times during my day, five if I eat certain things. Really no more than the number of times I have to pee. I take immodium (2) just before bed and sleep through the night (if my kids do Wink)

I eat everything including popcorn and nuts - though I eat those in moderation.
