What is the difference between the barrier rings and the eakin seals. We have tried the barrier rings, worked good but hard to clean off. What is the easiest way to clean them off your skin? We haven't opened the box of eakin seals, are they the same thing? Tried the paste today, is that easier to clean off? We're learnin!!

The barrier rings and the eakin seals are basically the same thing. I found the adapt rings easier to use, they were more flexible than the eakin seals. But, it's really a personal choice. I have never tried the paste, I had success with the rings and stayed with them. I would shower and just rub the skin and the residue would come off easy. I never used adhesive remover or any soap and never had any skin problems.

If you have the eakin seals, try one on your next change and see which one works better for you. Hope this helps,

janna

I agree with Janna but I use eakins. Let the water hit it in the shower and take a wash rag and clean it ... it comes off... water helps it a ton!

I am a big fan of the stomahesive paste by Convatec. I tried the Eakin seals and it is possible that I did something wrong, but they did n't work and in fact, caused a leak. I find that everything is trial and error. Both have their fans and like most things ostomy-related, people have strong opinions on what works for them.

I really like eakin seals. I used the paste a couple times but found it difficult to shape because it's so sticky. The eakins are pretty thick so i always squish them out a little bit before putting them on my skin, I was finding that because they were so thick they were causing the wafer to lift a little bit on the outside edges. My skin was pretty broken and red from frequent leaking for the first week and I had great success clearing everything up using eakins.

I'll walk this winding road into the great unknown.

I, too, prefer the barrier rings to Eakin seals. I think they are easier to mold. The paste didn't seem to do me any good with my last loop ileo...barrier rings were the only thing that helped. I haven't needed them this time around, though.

Ok, I'm the odd one out here because I don't like using either.

Even before I started using Convatec's moldable wafers I never had any good results from pastes or seals (perhaps I was doing something wrong?) I was just so glad when my ostomy nurse put me onto the moldables as they really do mold to every contour in the same way that eakin seals are supposed to.

Of course I'm all for a simple life so the less I have to do when changing my wafer the better so it's great knowing that I only have to slap on a new wafer and I'm good to go without the fuss and bother of fiddling around with bits of putty! Big Grin

We're all different and it's all a matter of preference and the only way to find out what your own specific preference is is to try different systems and products. Wink

I have a indent below my stoma and none on top. I use half of a adapt ring on the bottom and the paste on the top and it has worked great. I haven't had any trouble with residue that the Allcare wipes can't take off.

Okay, so I guess it is trial and error. What works for one might not for another. Great feedback! Much appreciated. We are getting a couple or samples of the convatec moldable wafers. Looking forward to trying them too. Thanks a bunch. Don't know what we would do without all of you!!

I use Eakins seals. I don't know if my stoma changed a little or what but after I started to use the Eakins seals I have not had as many problems with leaks (knock on wood)
