Since there is all this talk of trainers and whatnot I thought I would chime in. I highly recommend working with a personal Pilates trainer. The woman I worked with was so in tune to helping me and giving me gentle exercises that worked me out, toned my stomach but didn't cause injury. It's much different than getting a Pilates exercise DvD or even taking a class because you can't really understand which muscles to use until you have someone standing over you saying, "no, that's not it, wait, almost, there!"
Pilate instructors don't grow on trees but if you live in a larger city you should be able to find one. Of course you'll still need cardio to get the weight off but the Pilates will help give you strength and tone in a gentle way. "...all things work together for the good of those that love Him..." Hi Rae,
I reckon the chemo has affected your metabolism, as Jan suggests. You were on pretty strong drugs weren't you? I think the best form of exercise for you is walking (every day if you can, even if it's only for 15 minutes) and yoga. One type of yoga that is particularly good for metabolism is Kundalini yoga. It's a bit different from other styles of yoga (lots of rapid movement, then long rests). You don't have to be flexible or super fit to do it and it leaves you feeling very energised. By the way, congratulations on your 6-month results. |
