Do you think its leaking under the stoma b/c the skin is so irritated and raw there or am I not putting it on right? I didn't think I was cutting the hole too big and I stick it on from the bottom up but after 1 day it starts to melt the wafer and then the skin gets worse. What can I do to resolve this?

When the skin is irritated, you can get leak because of that because the skin is not even anymore. Also with me, when I got irritation, I used to get skin moisture so then I started using the powder also. Also, I have loop illesostomy and it's not round so getting the wafer cut properly was a pain. I went in to see the WOC nurse again and she helped me. My stoma is also not popped out much so flat wafers did not help. She tried convex wafer on me and it has been working wonderfully so far. Also, I wear the belt with my appliance. It helps to pop out the stoma.

I had a really bad leaking problem last year. The skin was awful and the wafer just wouldn't stick. What finally helped it was Stomahesive powder, sprinkling that on all over the skin and blowing away the extra powder. Then wiping a Skin Barrier wipe all over so that the powder melts. Using convex wafers (Hollister ones work well for me) and ostomy belts are helpful too. Hope this helps!
Ostomy since 6/11/07 Because colons are for boring, ugly, serious people!
I have went from a 1 1/4" hole in the wafer to a 3/4" in 3 months. When I went down the last time from 7/8" to a 3/4" it made a huge difference in my wafer melting. Good luck.
Have a fabulous day!
