Think I will call my new mate Trumpet. When I was in hospital the elderly lady across from me in my room would keep saying to me 'stop blowing your own trumpet' as being a new stoma he was very noisy! I thought that was pretty funny.

My stoma's name is Squirt. When I had a temporary ileo, I named my stoma Darth Maw. My temp ileo was especially hard to manage so deserved a Sith Lord's name...

I named my first temp, stoma Frank, because he looked like the end of a hot dog. Then I named my new loop stoma Ernest because of the comic strip Frank and Ernest. I also call my bag Oscar the pouch
I really find that naming them makes me like them more. |

My daughter (age 8) and I named her stoma Rosie, because it looked a bit like a red rose just sitting on her tummy.

My gf and I named mine Chandler, after the Friends character bc Chandler had a "nubbin" - a 3rd nipple, and I said that my stoma is like a nubbin.

My sister called mine Stumpy, too! I remember right before my second, and what was supposed to be final, surgery she said, "Bye, Stumpy, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out." I guess that pissed Stumpy off because he stayed and I need a third procedure next week to say my final good-bye to him.

These have been great to read and have set me thinking!
I shall have a loop ileo in a few weeks ... I'm already considering names now. - Voldermort as in 'he who must not be named' Voldermort is 'remade' from other 'bits' so it seems appropriate. But it will be difficult to use in 'code' circumstances (which sounds really useful to me!). - Beavis as in Butthead!! Too obvious? Not sure - Wonka as in Willie .... (I'm a serious chocoholic!) - Steve the Stoma (sadly probably my favourite at the minute - I love illiteration) However ... all other suggestions considered and I'll let you know!!! Colitis / proctitis since 1995. Surgery 10/12 - 'takedown' expected early 2011. "You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!" |

When I had my end illeostomy I called it Rose to start off wit and then the name got changed to Mount St. Helen because she often liked to blow her top and I got to clean up the mess.

My wife and I named mine "Rosey" based on the fact that it looked like I had a flower growing from my abdomen after the first surgery. I will be looking for names for the loop after the second step. Maybe "Loopie"!

I had j-pouch surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida in 1998. I just had a pouch-a-gram and everything is still working very good. My biggest problems have been dealing with all that stupid acid. Ouch!! I take fiber everyday and 1 Cholestyramine packet. That seems to help reduce the amount of BM's. My Bum always seems to be sore. I started wearing paper pants about a year ago. Now I can go out and not worry about anything. The other problem has been dealing with intestinal blockage. That really hurts. I had to educate the Doctor in the Emergency room on J-Pouch. I found it helpful to carry a diagram of before and after to help explain that I don't have a colon or rectum. I live in Florida and love oranges BUT I always pay the price when I eat an orange. I'm suffering at this moment with a blockage and am determined not to go to the Hospital. Just had my 2nd cup of Ginger Tea. Hopefully it will work. The pain usually last for about 12 hours. So I'll be taking some pain meds very soon. Keep me in your good thoughts. By the way, I never named my stoma. It did look like a Rose and act like Mt.St. Helen. Be in touch. I'm up for some "Support" today. Thanks, Jean
