Stoma placement

I got some advice from another ostomate suggesting I explore stoma placement below the beltline as its easier to conceal the bag and also a belt won't cut off output to the bag. I'm not really sure if my stoma could be placed below the beltline and curious if anyone else has had such a stoma placement.

If I were to do this again, I would definitely place my stoma below the belt line, if possible.
I struggled incredibly with a stoma almost immediately near my belly button with getting flanges to stay on etc as my stomach became lopsided after the surgery. My father who has a permanent ostomy had his placed lower than mine and never has any issues at all. My only issue with this is I wear low rise jeans and I am am not sure a lower stoma would work out better for me due to this.

We deliberately placed mine between my natural waist and my beltline. Sometimes it gets on my nerves if output pools at the top of the bag above the top of my pants. Also, I have not had much success with ostomy belts because my stoma sits far enough below my natural waist that the belt wants to ride up and causes the wafer to actually migrate up on my skin. Actually spent the $100 on a stealth belt and I can't wear it, it threatens to pull the bag right off the flange because it rides up my waist. As a man, you probably wouldn't have this issue though. I know part of the issue is that they have to locate it well within the rectus abdominus (I think) muscle to anchor it. I do think I wear pants with low enough rise that it would be tough to get the stoma below the beltline, and I don't mind where mine is too much.

I'm curious how many of those who have had to go back to an ileostomy for one reason or another,Have had their stoma placed in the same spot as the original surgery?

Mine is in the same spot so I don't end up with an extra scar.

Although I don't have a traditional ostomy I do have a k pouch with a stoma...when they did a redo in 2000 I woke up in shock because they moved my stoma up and next to my belly button...yikes...impossible to dress, wear the temp tube/bag/flange etc...when I asked why he moved it there he said that I hadn't expressed an opinion pre-op so he stuck it wherever he wanted!
Please test and try different placements and positions by sticking a flange and bag on you and then moving around dressed/undressed and see how you feel...find a comfy spot for you and then discuss it pre-op with your stoma nurse and doc.

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....
