Hi all,
From time to time I've seen people here suggest calling ostomy companies for samples (and I have followed the links to the site that lists them all in one place--very convenient!) I am scheduled for Step 1 of j-pouch surgery at the Mayo Clinic next week. I haven't yet met my doctor or the ET nurse there, so I don't know what range of different supplies the ET nurse will have available. Is requesting samples from the companies something I can/should do before the surgery, or are there pieces of information (like the size of my stoma?) that the ostomy companies will ask for but that I won't have until after surgery? I've got "call ostomy supply companies" on my list of things to do before surgery, but now I wonder whether it even belongs there. Thanks, CG |

Hi Charlotte,
You can order supplies now so when you get back home the samples will be there. Just don't order any wafers with pre-cut openings since your stoma will shrink. Hope you recover fast from your surgery!!! Scott |
