about 9 days after my surgery - feb 20th - some of the skin around the outside of the wafer has become numb, like your cheek feels when you have been to the dentist.i see my surgeon march 26th but in the meantime, does this sound normal, and if so will it go away?

Hi Fiona,

I still have an area around Wee Willie (my end ileo) which is numb and its 4 years since I had my j-pouch removed. I really wouldn't worry too much about it. It's just the nerves that are traumatised. It may come back eventually but it's certainly not a sign that anything is wrong.

Mention it to your surgeon though if only to put your mind at rest.

Take care. Smiler

I also have a spot toward my belly button and a little lower, about 4 oclock position. It has been numb since my permanent ileo july 06. It doesn't bother me,not a problem. In fact I find it easier to take the wafer off at that spot, can't feel it pulling much. It has gotten less numb as time goes on but still there.

Normal and sensation may or may not return. I have an area that circles my stoma and is about 1 inch wide that has no sensation. This has not really changed for 3 years since my stoma revision. They moved my stoma from one location to another without doing a major incision. They created the new stoma opening my belly and kinda fished the stoma from the old location to the new one. The area was pretty beat up and I was extrememly sore from it and I think that is probably when the nerve damage was done. One of these Pros is that I don't get that infernal itching if I get a slight leak. One of the Cons is I don't get that infernal itching if I get a slight leak so I never really know I am working on a blow out until it is too late and I have a mess on my hands.
