My surgery was 7 weeks ago and I've been having horrible itching/pain on the left of my stoma after 3 days of changing appliance. When I take it off, the skin seems fine, but tonight I noticed a small stitch still attached to the left and when I tried to wipe it, it looked like it was burrowing into the skin and I had the same pain. Should I call my ostomy nurse? I don't know if it was supposed to dissolve by now.

Yes, call the ET.
Chris had this happen and it needed to come out. I think it is quite common. Feel better |

Theresa,
I had a revision of my ostomy back 8 weeks ago. I can still see a couple of stitches peeking out too. They are not bothering me, but they are supposed to dissolve over time. If you are unconfortable call your Surgeon or ET nurse to let them know. 6M$S (Bill) |

Hi Theresa,
Sometimes these dissolving stitches need a little longer to dissolve than most. You could just wait it out as it will probably dissolve on it's own in time but if it is causing you bother then your ET nurse may be able to remove it for you. However you should make sure that all is healed well before getting it removed. Good luck. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |
