Each time you empty add a few drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and next empty there should be no odour, no covering minty smell or anything - just no odour DO NOT use anything stronger than the 3% which is available in the first aid section of supermarkets. It's used to clean scratches and scrapes and can even be used as a mouth wash. It is perfectly safe to use in your bag. It's much cheaper than the 'made for ostomates' deodorisers.
I'm not a complete idiot - some parts of me are missing!

I would look at your diet. Some food can make my wife pass out from across the house by the time it works itself through my intestinal "arts and crafts". While I love eggs - they do my neighbors in. If you are sticking with one-piece appliances review and revise the diet.

I use the two piece appliance, so that I can rinse the bag on those days that I do eat eggs, fish that make my bag really smell, I disconnect and rinse out my bag and wipe around the stoma, then put a few drops of mouth wash in the bag, every other time, this seems to work really well. I know that the deoderizer is very expensive, which the mouth wash is much more inexpensive.
Good Luck

Hi Rachel, There is no reason why you can't put drops or 3% peroxide in your one piece bag. Just hold the drainable end up and drop them in that way. I'm with Cheryl, I rinse my bag with water every time I empty. It helps with odour control and for me it also helps speed up the emptying process as my stool is nearly always on the thick side. Good luck Shell One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers!

Not my thread, but I tried the hydrogen peroxide and it works so well!!! I am thrilled that I can empty at peoples houses with out fear of odor. I too use water to rise my pouch each time I empty.

I don't know what Shaz does. But I just add a bit after I rinse out my bag. I don't swish it around or anything. I've been using it a couple days now and it certainly hasn't had any ill effects on my stoma or the tissue around it.
