I have very sensitive skin and just got my loop ileo on august 16th. My stoma sticks out a little but the stuff comes out flush with my skin at the bottom so it is right at my skin. It's just eating my skin away and everytime i change my waffer thing it just pulls more skin away. For a good seal i have tried the paste, eakin seals, the moldable paste stuff from coloplast, the crusting system (seems to be the best so far), that bonding stuff that you kind of paint on (seemed to make it way worse). I have also tried multi types of waffer things. I am looking for any advice on products from seal stuff to different waffer things, to technics for people with super sensitive skin. Please, any help is appreciated. Thanks Smiler

I had problems right after surgery with my stoma being flush to the skin. maybe try a convex wafer. that makes the stoma stick out. and stay with the crusting and eakin seals. over time you will get more wear time and it will heal, just in time for your take down.

Of course, isn't that always how it goes, lol. I am sure that i will be getting it all down pat by the time i get hooked back up. I have started using a convex wafer as of Tuesday so we will see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.

I have always used a convex wafer on both my loop and end ileo.

Have a fabulous day!

I have the exact same problem, and the convex wafer with support belt is making the issue better.

I do not find the convex wafer as comfortable as the flat wafers, but do find solice in knowing only 9 more weeks until the loop ostomy is gone.

I agree with Hawk- the convex wafer with the support belt is the way to go!

Convex wafers are a must for stubby little stomas. If you have not yet tried Convatec Durahesive moldable wafers, give those a shot. With sensitive skin, I recommend that you add an Eakin seal as well. I know that seems like a lot on top of a convex wafer, but Eakins are great for healing irritated skin.

When I had a flush stoma, I used multiple layers of stomahesive powder and barrier wipes, and that helped my skin a little. I also changed my appliance on a set schedule even if I didn't feel like it was leaking. Use an adhesive remover to get them off to help cut down on them taking skin with them. If your skin is broken, it will sting like a son of a gun, but it really helps get the sticky stuff off. Make sure you wash thoroughly each time you change the wafer. Nice warm water and a non-residue soap (I use Dial white) will help your skin heal and won't interfer with your appliance sticking when you put on a new one. Rinse really well, and make sure your skin is as dry as you can get it before you put on a new appliance. Use a hair dryer if you need to.
