recovery time for pouch removal?

Hi, all.

I had my 2nd jpouch removed last Friday. No more tries for me. This is it. I had an end ostomy created and rectum sutured. It has been just over a week, and I'm doing well. For those of you who have had pouch excision, how long was your recovery period? I feel like this is going to be a quick recovery Smiler

Hi,
Had my pouch out in july 06 and from what I remember it was easier then the origional surgery of the colon removal and pouch creation, but not by a whole lot. You may have a much easier time, everyone is different. Good luck on the healing and a speedy recovery to you.

If it wasn't for the obstruction I had after my pouch removal I believe it would have been the easiest of the surgeries to recover from. I already knew what to expect from the bag. I only had a disconnect done. I still have my pouch in and my anus is still in tact. I think it's quite a bit harder if the anus is sewn shut. Good luck. Smiler

Have a fabulous day!

hmmmm, it must not have been too bad because I really had to try and remember it! I sat on a pad/wheel chair cushion for a good while while my bum healed up, but the vert. incision and ostomy were old hat. Good luck with the recovery, sounds like you are already feeling better.

Thanks! I am feeling pretty well now, just 2 weeks out of surgery. I do have stitches in my bottom; but before this surgery, I had a drain tube in my rectum for 5 months; so the sutures are much more comfortable than the tube. I'm thinking of going back to work after this week. I was going to wait until mid-October; but I feel better than I've felt in a while; just to have all of the diseased pouch out of me. I took a trip to Walmart today and spent 2 hours at a toddler's birthday party with only 3 vicodin for the entire day. I'm thinking (knock on wood) that I am out of the woods .... finally =-)
