I normally stay over night in his room the night after surgery but Danny was doing so well, I got to come home. He said Dr. R told him he has to walk alot tomorrow and possibly he will be on a regular diet.
We are looking forward to hearing your success story, David.

That’s awesome. It’s good to hear that Dr. Robb has one good one in the books. I’m sure he has many more than that, but it’s always calming to hear positive results first hand.

Hi Tad. Danny is doing great. This morning he was a little upset because they took his catheter out at 1 am and by 10 he still had not urinated. So they had to cath him again to empty his bladder..and took the cath out. After that he started going on his own. He was very worried something was wrong. He is up walking other floors and all over. Tonight he called and told me he finally had a very small bowel movement and is passing gas like a trooper. This surgery was a peice of cake compared to the other 2. The nurses have been excellent. Could not have asked for better care this time around. I hope both you and David have very easy times also. I am sure there will be some rough times ahead when he starts actually eating food....I told him to watch out and not over do it or he would probably be spending his day on the pot.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a funny pee story. They took out the catheter the day after my surgery. The problem was, about the same time they took it out was when they realized that I might have something wrong with my breathing. So the staff panicked, got Dr. Shaw, and hustled me down to the CT scan machine. Turns out I have a blood clot in my lung, so it’s off to the ICU with me. About halfway to the ICU, about 3 hours after catheter removal, I decided I was ready to pee. We get to the ICU, and by this time I really, really need to pee. I told the assembly of doctors and nurses there in the ICU that I needed to pee, so they gave me a urinal and all stood there. I was like, “You’re all going to have to leave, and pull all the curtains.” There was no way, even on all the morphine, that I was about to pee in front of a half dozen complete strangers. So anyway after what seemed like an eternity they finally all left, it was funny to me because it seemed they expected me to pee right in front of them.

Hey everybody! It is wednesday at 11:30 a.m. & I'm home!!! Wow, every prayer I prayed was answered even better than I asked! I feel great & no accidents even in the hospital or as of yet! Great to feel down there & no bag! Great to know I can sleep and not have to wake up every hour or so & feel my bag for fullness & leaks! I'm home before David goes in so I only pray that his comes out as great and as easy as mine! It is like I can finally turn the page & close this chapter out & look forward to a new one! I know that there wiil be trials to come, but I'm embracing this moment that I have! I sincerly hope yours is just as grand David! Thanks for all of your prayers & support! Danny

Hi Everyone! Went to bed at 8:30 last night & got up at 6:00 thursday a.m.! Only got up once to go to the bathroom!!! That blows my mind! Normally every hour I'd be waking to inspect my bag for leaks & fullness & yanking myself to the bathroom to empty! This is really nice! Trying to get butt burn & have some blood in the stool but thats because skin is getting sore from liquid. I'm patting dry and quickly sealing the area with this cream Heather got & is working good! I can't believe I've not had one accident, I expected them frequently, but I can sense when something is trying to ooze out & can control it till I get to the bathroom! Praise God, I was really expecting to have to wear depends! I just really hope Dave & all others who approach this stage have equal sucess! Bless you all! Danny

Speaking of PEE stories -this hapened to me earlier tonight. Surgery went well. I was in ICU for 7 hours waiting for a bed. Finally got settled in my room at 6 PM. A doc(not my surgeon) comes by and informs me I have to pee in 1 hour or I get a catheter. I had no water to drink all day and I was so dehydrated-they took 6 pokes in the OR before they could get a line in. I told doc bladder was empty and I was in no discomfort so why the rush. he said something about infection. I asked why no one told me to pee, if they did I would have tried. He says he has 30 patients and is very busy. I told him to go jump in a lake, I want to at least try to pee on my own. My surgeon walks in and instead of going over the surgery we are discussing my peeing options. He agreed to give me 2 hours to try and called off the young doctor who already went to get the catheter stuff. In 2 hours I took 5 pees for 1500 ml Can't wait to see young doctor in the morning. BTW - doctor said surgery went well, up walking around on my own...and peeing on my own. David Go Colts
