I actually had takedown a couple weeks ago but I got a product in the mail from Coloplast a few days ago - the insert calls them 'Protective Sheets' and they're a big square of soft-plastic that's sticky on one side.
Is this a new product? Has anyone used these? The instructions say to cut out a hole the size of your stoma and then stick it to your body...it says the 'elasticity of the sheet makes it possible for the hole to widen when put over the stoma and then retract immediately for a snug fit'. I'm assuming then you'd put your wafer on top of the protective sheet. Seems like an interesting idea, i've never heard them mentioned before so I'm just really curious if they actually work or not. Anybody have some insight?

Hi Pixie,

I think you may be talking about the hydracolloid protective skin barriers?

http://www.us.coloplast.com/ECompany/USMed/Product.nsf/...04d5c25?OpenDocument

These have been around for a very long time and are basically just like the ultra thin Duoderm wound dressings. I have used them when I had some very nasty peristomal ulcers (pyoderma) which I placed over the packed ulcers so that my wafer had something to adhere to. They are also supposed to be very good for those with extreme skin problems or who have very sensitive skin.

I'm like Jason though.... I wouldn't use it unless had problems. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Wink

Cool Shell Cool

Yes Shell, that link you posted is the product i'm talking about. I just thought it was interesting that I had never heard anyone mention them before. Seems like they could be useful if necessary, and they feel really nice and soft.

Hi, Pixie. I use them regularly. I cut a small circle about 2 inches around and then a smaller one in the middle that just about goes over my stoma. Kinda like a little wafer for under my wafer. It is thin, very soft, and flexible and gives me a perfect little "turtleneck" to come up around my stoma. I like it because it works a bit like paste but no gloppy ick. This works really well for me and has protected my skin. I use a cut-to-fit appliance and I tend to cut no 2 wafers the same. I have had great success with the Coloplast SenSurra one-piece light convex appliance.
