Hey gang,
It has been a while since I've been on the boards, but I still recognize quite a few familiar faces, which is great! I can honestly say after having my perm ileo for 2.5 years now, the only thing I could use to improve is odor control. I use the following now, but am looking for any good tablets you could put in the pouch or eat? Feel free to add to the list, as I'm sure everyone's ideas put together could produce a good arsenal for a lot of people. Good to hear from you guys. 1. Devrom tablet (Parthenon company) (most effective) - this is bismuth subgullate(sp?) and is taken orally. This really reduces odor when I know I'm eating foods I know cause a lot of odor. Only downside, it makes me feel bloated for a long time. 2. M5 Drops (Hollister I beleive)- (effective) - this is the blue drops put into the bag. Works great, effective. Downside, you have to keep putting it in after every change, and it's relatively expensive. 3. Avoid stinky foods. (Somewhat effective) 4. Empty pouch frequently. (Somewhat effective) 5. Change bag more frequent even if wafer doesn't need it. (Somewhat effective, expensive). Matt Tell 'em sammy two toes sent cha' |

Hi Matt,
Good to see you back and in such good form! I believe that the best tried and trusted odour control is very cheap and simple to use though I haven't tried it myself because being a girl my poo doesn't smell. A lot of my ostomate friends swear by Peroxide 3%. Just a drop or two into your bag every time you empty will get rid of even the most evil of smells. You can pick it up from any drug store/pharmacy and it's very inexpensive. It won't hurt your stoma at all because 3% is really very weak but it really does work. Give it a try and let us know how you get along with it. Take care. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

I swear by the 3% hydrogen peroxide because, although I am a girl, my poo does stink

I use the Hollister M9 drops- work great.
Mine doesnt't really have any smell, except when I eat the stinky foods. If it does, it's usually a sweet smell. Just in case you're looking for the Hollister drops Matt mentioned, they're M9- not M5. //Todd Step 1 - 2/8/05 Step 2 - 5/10/05 Reversal back to permanent ileostomy - 3/11/08 ** I Love Food. ** AIM/YahooIM: Br8knitOFF |

Thanks for all of the tips. Shell, I am going to try that Peroxide tip. So they sell it in 3% form, or do you have to dillute it with water? I am excited about trying this , because this would be MUCH cheaper than a lot of things I've tried. Thanks again folks, hope all is well!

The 3% solution is usually found in the first aid section of your supermarket. It's used on scrapes and bruises and can even be used as a mouthwash.
