I've taken chewable, caplets and liquid immodium. I don't feel like it helps. Metamucil does though. I've done the powder and the wafers in that. Also eating thickening foods helps-bread, potatoes, applesauce, cheese and crackers.

Fiber pills or caplets often don't help with the ileo because they have to be broken down over a longer time period. Try the powder or wafers. High fiber breads should help, but I find Cape Cod potato chips do a great job of thickening things up and taste a lot better too For a longer term solution, look at taking Immodium regularly. Jan posted something a while back about how Immodium works best when taken regularly vs sporadically and I have foudn taht to be very true. Time should also help as I found things thickened up around 6 months. If you simply want to make the liquid in the bag less sloshy, there is a bead/gel like thing you can get from the supply houses that turns the liquid into a paste. I think it is called ileosorb or something like taht.

Take chewable everything! We found this out the hard way...one day, my husband and I happened to see a whole fiber pill come out of his ostomy! After that, it was chewable fiber pills and chewable vitamins for him.
Imodium doesn't come in the chewable form, but if you take more, it should help. His surgeon said he could safely take up to 8 imodiums per day. I think my husband takes 4 per day now with his j-pouch.
