Hi all.
As some of you know, I'm trying to decide between the ostomy and the J-pouch, but to tell you the truth, I'm leaning more towards an ostomy. Much more freedom in my opinion. Anyway, I remember when I had an ostomy I would sometimes use the eakin seals and I really liked how well they helped the wafer to stick to my skin. Many people here perfer the moldable wafers, but say they can only get 3-4 days out of them. With the eakin, I could get up to 7, even thought that was pushing it. So I was wondering, if you used an eakin seal and the moldable wafer together, would it make the main job of the moldable wafer useless? xo♥, Win This message has been edited. Hi Kalene,
I use the moldable convex wafers and in my experience eakin seals don't work well with them. The whole point of the moldable is to eliminate the need for seals and pastes. I find that they really do mold to every contour and they turtleneck around the stoma giving it extra protection. Before I had my last operation I regularly got 7 days out of the moldables. However that operation gave me some new dips and hills around my stoma which makes the surface more uneven. Even so I still get 4-5 days and could probably go longer but just prefer not to. I'm very much a "less is more" type of person and I really don't like having to fiddle around with pastes and seals so the moldable are perfect for me. I know there are people out there who do use eakin seals with the moldable wafers and seem to prefer that system. We are all different and I guess it's all a matter of trial and error as well as preference. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

I have gone back and forth on this issue. Before my stoma revision I needed Eakin seals to with the convex moldable to get more than 24 hours of wear. After my revision the seals caused leaks in a couple of hours (still using moldable convex). Lately I have been leaking a lot so I thought I would give it another try. This time I cut a seal in half and the recreate the circle and smooth the seal so it is thiner and place around a prepped stoma. My moldable convex wafer then goes on top. This has been working great for the past three changes. I just ordered a new box of seals.

winnie, I used the hollister adapt rings with the convatec moldable wafer and it worked fine. I never had any leaks or problems with my skin.
I started using the seals before I was using the moldable ones, had no problems, so I just continued to do the same thing. I loved the moldable wafers, they are so easy to use. janna |

Thanks everyone for you comments.
Just one quick question for you, Tricia: Why do you think the seals started working better after your revision? xo♥, Win This message has been edited. Last edited by: Winnie~, ~Provide free rice to hungry people by playing this simple word game~ Click here!! V http://www.freerice.com/ |

I have no idea why they didn't work 1 year ago but they seem to now Winnie. Sometimes it is worth it to try old ideas again and see if they work this time.

Lol, I know what you mean. Things change all the time whether it be the ostomy or the PT.
Thanks again. xo♥, Win ~Provide free rice to hungry people by playing this simple word game~ Click here!! V http://www.freerice.com/ |
