Good Morning Everyone!
Last summer, I thought sweating under my wafer and the itching that came with it was going to drive me insane. I have been searching high and low for a way to help this problem for the coming summer and have been more than a little envious of the non-greasy barrier cream that Shell and some of the rest of you have talked about since I can't get it in the US. However, while shopping in a Target store about six weeks ago, I tripped over an antiperspirant called Certain Dry. It's a roll-on type and contains only aluminum chloride (the antiperspirant part), sodium bicarbonate, and water. No oils of any sort. I started to experiment with it by rolling some on my finger, then dabbing the area under the tape of my wafer (NOT under the wafer itself) when I changed my appliance. I only did a quarter of the wafer at first, then half, to see if the part of the tape that had the antiperspirant under it wore any differently than the part that did not. I have to say, that I have been trying this stuff on at least eight appliance changes and have had no problems with adhesion of the tape to my skin, and I notice considerably less annoying sweating and itching under the tape where it has been applied. I have swam with it, played sports, sat in a jacuzzi, and done any and all of my usual exercise and activities with no problems with wear or the tape coming unstuck. This stuff is very watery (being water based and all), and it takes awhile to dry after it's been applied. I use a blow dryer on it to make sure it's very dry before I peel the paper off of the tape. I have tried using it with and without applying a barrier wipe over it afterward, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. If anyone else out there has the same sort of itching/sweating problems I have had, I recommend giving this stuff a try. I have seen at at Target, Walgreens, and WalMart in the regular deoderant/antiperspirant section. If anyone else DOES try it, I'd be very interested in hearing about your experience with it. -Rae |

Hi Rae,
It's brilliant news that you have found a substitute for Chiron cream! I believe that the aluminum chloride is the key to the success of the cream and as I said before, if you could just get a chemist to make some up for you.... only now you don't need to! I use the cream all year round, especially since we have moved to a flat that has central heating! I have even been able to stop using the cloth backings that I used to wear under my bags to prevent that horrible sweat rash! I wonder why you can't get this cream (even under a different brand name?) in the States? Oh and the Chiron cream takes a while to dry too because it's also water based. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |
