Ummmm...that seriously freaks me out.
If I still had my stoma, I would not be sticking things into it. But, that's me. Scary. |

Seems like it would be OK, as long as you have a mature stoma and don't wear it for more than a couple of hours or so. Looks like a nifty item, but I have never heard of using a plug for anything other than a colostomy, not an ileostomy. You think it would be reliable for swimming??
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

I was wondering if the salesman has an ostomy and has used it himself I am with Lisa...sticking something in my little friend would freak me out David |

It's really only for use for colostomates that irrigate. It wouldn't work with an ileosotmy--the waste would just blow it right out of the hole. The people with most of their colon left, but who had their rectums and anus removed, can basically give themselves giant enemas, and not have to worry about any waste at all for 24-48 hours after they irrigate. It's a pretty long process--I think it take about an hour.
Some people that irrigate wear the mini bags. Others wear the caps. Either way, it won't work for those of us that have an ileostomy. |

Always heard of them and never saw one.. interesting! Though I am lucky and the wife doesnt mind the bag when we have sex (I use a smaller pouch when we do) and as for swimming and all I use what i have.. stays on and no issues... Ido the hot tub every day for 30 min and shower every day and getting 6 days np on each change.
On more thing.. All I think about is when you take the stopper out "THERE SHE BLOWS!" Jason - Pa statie7104@yahoo.com Step 1 Jan 06 Step 2 March 06 Spleen & Gallbladder June 06 Pouch Disconnect / End Illeo May 07 |

Aaron's Mom... my appliance doesn't come off with water activities either. I wear a lycra swimsuit if in a hot tub or swimming but if I have a regular bath or shower I don't wear anything over it, just towel dry myself change my bag (not the wafer) and get dressed. I use Convatec's moldable wafers which are durahesive rather than stomahesive and I think that is why I don't have issues.
The plug is indeed only meant for colostomies not ileostomies. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

I have no issues with water and my appliance either, though I'm an every 3 day change person even without water activities. I do use a closed end bag if I'm swimming in a public pool (sometimes, I find the longer I have the ostomy, the lazier I get). I often take an immodium before going to the pool if I'm going to be there a long time (like on vacation) just to make it easier on myself with bathroom and bathing suit issues (nothing to do with stoma - I just hate having to pull on a wet bathing suit, even if I'm going right back in the water).
I wear a 10" bag ('cause I'm short) and as with Jason and his wife, my husband and I have no issue with it during intimate moments. However, they do make a mini bag that is about 5" or so. Because it does not hang down very low, it barely moves when you move. It has more capacity than the stoma cap you showed above (btw- they make these without the plug, just a cap - I used them to shower early in my stoma life) so might be more practical. |

I was wondering how people count there days for changing...if you change on Mon. then wait until Friday would you count that as 4 or 5 days? Does it really matter how long you go between changes if you are having no skin problems? Sometimes I go 4,5 or 6 days before changing the wafer. I change the bag more often, every 2 days or so.
Thanks for the input David |

Like Jill and Shell said we dont do anything to different. I think once you know your body, your wear time and how things work (or dont work) for you then you can figure out how to swim and hot tub with it. I really don do anything different... I use a 2 piece holister with a clip and just go in. I dont eat about 1 hour before (my track is fast) and then I just go in and have fun (only staying in about 30 to 45 min). WHen I get out I blow dry the wafer and bag (my bag has felt on the front and back and takes me about 2 to 4 min to get dry)... I think Shell and Jill will agree with me that at first it was more of a trust issue and mental then anything. I remember my first time with temp (Now have perm) I was afraid to shower even not knowing what would happen LOL! What do you think shell and Jill... agree with that?
Indy... LOL thats a funny question cause janna and I always lol about that. I change my in the am so i count that day as a full day! Jason - Pa statie7104@yahoo.com Step 1 Jan 06 Step 2 March 06 Spleen & Gallbladder June 06 Pouch Disconnect / End Illeo May 07 |

I would not use that device with an ileostomy. You have no pouch for the stool and gas to go to. Use a small closed end pouch for these activities.
