Hey all,

Well, as I'm getting bigger, I've developed an itchy, red rash under my wafer tape and a little under the wafer. It's really annoying. Never had any issues with the tape before and it started coming on about 2 weeks ago (start of my second trimester). Any advice for clearing it up? I already cut my tape pretty narrow all the way around, so can't go much smaller. I thought for a bit it might be the bag rubbing against my skin differently now that I have a bit of a bump (esp since it is worst at the edges of the tape), but I've been protecting that area and it isn't getting better.

Due to see ET nurse in March or so anyway, so maybe I'll have to move that up....

Jill, do you think it could be a yeast infection? I think you are more prone to them because of increased amounts of certain hormones. Just a thought.........

There is an increase of lactic acid production during pregnancy, which prevents the growth of excess bacteria in the vagina. This does favor the growth of yeast. I'm not sure if this applies systemically though in regards to pregnancy. I would still suspect yeast, but wanted to touch on your post, Judith. Smiler
Can you have them culture it, Jill?

Funny because that's just what I was going to suggest too. Have you tried one of the anti-fungal powders?

Hope you get it under control soon.

BTW, loved the new picture of you and Alex in the snow! Smiler

Take care. Smiler

Interesting...never thought of yeast but it makes sense. It's been better since I posted (of course) but I do a change tomorrow or the next day and I'll check it out then.

I'll have to get some anti fungal powder to have on hand; probably just a good idea in general. NEver had to use pink tape either, but I'm thinking I'll get some to keep on hand too...

Thanks on the pic Shell...I'm feeling very nostalgic and a bit weepy this week as Alex turns two on Wednesday.

I have an itchy rash under and to the left of my stoma also. I'm definitely not pregnant (that would be strange) but it wouldn't be the first time something strange happened. Advice?

I have a slight emotional attachment to my stoma. They're kinda cute!... but evil.

Hi Ostogirl,

It could be a fungal infection. Perhaps you could get your stoma nurse to take a look. She may be able to give advice on what the best treatment would be.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Take care Smiler

Jill, I don't know if you've ever used the pink tape before, but I had a reaction to that tape. I was using it when I would go swimming, but I had to stop. I found using the white paper tape worked just as well. Hope you get it under control soon,

janna
