Our son just had a temp ileostomy and a colostomy created. He is 1 year old.
The stomas are so close together that he can't use two bags and just far enough apart that he can't use one bag with two holes. Any ideas from the seasoned pros? we have been using hollister flextend two piece appliances and they have worked out well but they have a center starter hole. |

Can you use a preemie ostomy bag for one of them? That's what I had to do when I had an ileostomy and a fistula close to one another. I would offset the hole for the wafer around the stoma. The preemie bags did not have a starter hole, so I cut that hole way over. The bags didn't stay on very long. I was lucky to get 1 1/2 days out of the preemie wafer & once it failed, the other larger wafer would leak, too.
I wonder if people who have both an ileostomy & a urostomy could advise you. Good luck! Anjuli *My experience is not typical* |

I really do not have much advice to offer this time....the 2 suggestions already made sound like a good place to start though. You could also try a large adult size and cut 2 holes in it. Some of them are very big. I only worry that it would probably cover a lot of your poor baby! How long will he have the temp ileo?
I just really wanted to say good luck. Our kids are amazing arnt they? Hope you find a solution soon. Laura 6 y.o. son with CD -colectomy at age 3 with end ileo -IRA with loop ileo 8/08 remicade/elemental feedings |

IBD,
I am not worried about the size of the wafer or bag. He has had an ostomy since he was 4 days old. Then it was a loop ostomy. Now that he is in the reconstruction stage for Total Colonic Hirschsprung Disease, he has an ostomy and fistula. The widest point is 2.25 inches, so I am going to order the larger version of what we are using now and make one whole and create a bridge between the stoma and fistula. There is only a half inch between the two. and eventually when the fistula dries up, the surgeon told us to just cover it with the wafer. I know there will be some mucous, but hopefully not enough to undermine the wafer We are not sure when the next procedure will be. The disease is rare and there is no standardized timeline to do the next step. I believe the next step will rid us of the fistula, but until then, we have a headache on our hands |
