problem with Illeostomy bag leaking daily...

So, I am around week 7 of recovering from part 1 of J-Pouch surgery. I haven't had many bag leaks since I switched to using two-piece bags and stoma paste. Now I found the coloplast to work better than adapt for me.

I have also been cutting the holes at the correct size to allow stuff out but not big enough to allow it to sit in and irritate the skin, which right now I have a small red half ring around the bottom portion of my stoma. I have also found I am outputting alot of acid. Could this be causing problems and if so would it be like spicy stuff or just some normal food that would be causing a rise in the output of acid?

I will sit there and watch the oozing of acid come out sometimes with some gas and it will go under the two piece and sometimes if I press down on the rim of the base right next to the stoma popping out it will push up the stool/acid. Does this mean I am not doing something correct with the application of the bag?

I also use barrier wipes around the outside of the stoma where I apply the ring of paste around the stoma then apply the bag.

Any help that anybody can share would be greatly appreciated since I cannot go anywhere or do anything for the past 3-5 days without my bag leaking and having to leave a restaurant, or a movie theater, or a friends house....etc. I even have driven like 50 miles to go fishing early in the morning and within 20min - 3 hours I have to drive home early to change my bag all the while driving home and thus having to clean my dirty clothes almost everyday.

The best thing i found out to do is to leave a little air in the pouch itself, instead of letting the pouch
become a pancake. That way there is always a "gap" where your output can go. if there is a filter,
i always place that sticker over the filter to not let any air out. you just have to keep an eye out to not
let the bag over-inflate. also try not to have a gap under your stoma with you ring and pouch.

Are you using a "convex" wafer? Especially with a loop ileo, it will make it stick out farther, so the output will go into the bag rather then seep underneath the wafer. Best of luck... Smiler
