I been leaking since day 1 been since march 22nd I have a open wound and it drains bad right next to the wafer nearly on top of it causing the wafer to come up and then leak. I have to change the wafer every day.... if it wasnt for me having old supplies from before having a ostemy I dunno what I would do. although i,m nearly out of them to soon and need advice since my ct nurse is not helpful at all..

The last time I had a ostemy I had leak problems at the end but was differnt problem and et nurse never came up on how to fix it so no surprise sorry i,m venting but sick of this my skin is getting irrated from changing the wound 5 times a day because of how bad it drains.

The doctor says its normal for it to drain like that because of some stuff they but in the mesh for the hernia and it will take months for it to slow down so i,m lost on what to do any advice would be great since my ET nurse and doc have gave me nothing useful and basically kicking me to the side... thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff,

I had hoped that since you hadn't posted about this problem recently that things had improved. I'm so sorry that you are still having leakage problems. How often are you having to change your wafer? I know you said you are having to change the wound dressing 5 times a day and that is obviously the main problem.

I do sympathise as I know exactly what you are going through as I had the same problem for months with Wee Willie and my peristomal ulcers. At one point I was changing the wafer 4-5 times a day but at least I was in hospital until I got down to changing it just once a day. Also, we are very fortunate that we don't have to pay for our ostomy supplies here on the island. I can't imagine having to go through what you're going through and have the added stress of not knowing if your supplies will run out.

Is there no other ET nurse that you can see? We have 2 Ostomy nurses here on the island. One works in the hospital with new patients and the other works out in the community taking care of those who have gone home. Our Community stoma nurse is also a specialist in wound care so she was invaluable to me during that time. Perhaps you could see another ET nurse?

I really can't think of any new advice or ideas on how to help you that we didn't already come up with on your last thread. I really do hope that you find a solution soon. Come here and vent away as often as you need to.

Take care.

Cool Shell Cool

One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! Wink

thanks shell noramlly 1 time a day I change the wafer. Far as the nurse we only have one. Last night I ran out of supplies and called her she said she would be over and never showed needless to say I was not a happy person . I had to sit there with a towel and get in the shower ever so often . I called the doc today and let them have it I was so angry.

Lucky today all my supplies came in the mail and the nurse still never called me or showed and i,m putting a complaint to her boss's about this. The doctor is gonna hev to be see the ostemy nurse we have in the hositil there very nice and helpful and there is 3 to see what we can do since the home care one is so useless and not a nice person to deal with.

Never will understand why people get in a porfession to help the ill if there not nice or helping etc.... just really ticks me off makes me like to see them in this postion.
