Okay, so this is my second round with my ileo, now that I've been temporarily (I hope) diverted since October while we try to heal a couple of fistulas with Remicade. Anyway, I'm using the Hollister convex wafers and Adapt barrier rings...same as I used with my last ileo with no complaints. Problem now is horrible itching under the wafer (more around the area where the tape is). I don't have leaking problems, and I've tried using the Nystatin powder to clear up the rash, which has always helped in the past, but to no avail. I had no problem with the Hollister appliance last time. I'm wondering if they could have slightly changed something in the adhesive or maybe I just developed this reaction? I just scratch and scratch......... Eeker

Sounds exactly like what happened to me. I was fine with the Convatec stuff with my first ostomy but was allergic to everything on my second.

Try getting some samples from different companies and do patch tests on the other side of your stomach. My ET nurse and I did about 7 patches, numbered them with permanent marker and waited a week. When we removed them, you could see which ones made my skin raw and itchy and which ones didn't (because I scratched them off b4 they had a chance to get too bad).

Not much worked for me except Duoderm. It's a piece of adhesive, about the same size as the wafer. I cut a hole in it and put it between my skin and the wafer with no powders or anything. It was the only thing I wasn't allergic to but it didn't last as long as the regular appliances. At least I had some relief though.

Good luck and see if the ET nurse at the hospital near you can help.

Pam

I had the same problem and the convatec people told me to switch to the white tape products, I was using the skin colored tape and that was the problem for me.
