Has anyone had problems with the CONVATEC bags with the filter. I was thinking of trying them, but just want feedback before ordering them. I would think that anything that would release gas would also allow liquid to pass thru.

Hi Barbie, I was just on the phone with Convatec about their filter bags.
The lady told me the filter averages working for about 2 days. Some people more, some less.
They were very nice, and she is sending me a bag to try with the filter.
Good luck, Randy

I thought I would share this post on the UOAA site. I got more replies.

Still wondering if the filter is right for me. I mostly liquid output, but I ordered something to add to the bag to gel things up. Don't know if the stool will stick around the stoma.

Randy, I guess I will get a sample from Convatec and try it, like you. How do you like it so far?

Barbie, I've used those bags and haven't had any trouble with them. The filter is on the inside of the bag and it is a charcoal filter to help with odor and you can't smell anything. They worked fine for me. If the filter gets soiled then it kinda affects it but I didn't really notice a difference. The filter is located at the top of the bag. The only trouble I'm having now is my skin is irritated and burned under my stoma but I havent had any trouble with the bags.

You do need to cover the filter area though when you shower or bath; they give you stickers to help with this. I just never felt filter bags were worth it...I'm a less is more girl!

I wear Coloplast's Assura bags and the filter works really well for me. I do change my bag every day after my shower though.

Also, you will notice that the gas subsides with time.

Good luck and take care. Smiler

I use the filter and always have, it keeps down the oder and the air. Would not trade it for anything else.

I use Coloplast Sensura bags, before that I used the Assura bag Shell mentioned. I don't think the filters work at all. Maybe I'm gassier then most, but mine is always filling up ith air.

Have a fabulous day!

Hi Barbie, Sorry for the delay in answering. I have been stuck in the hospitol, and had to have my gallbladder removed.
As for the Convetec bags with filter. I had worn the new bag when I was going in the hospitol. The night before surgury, I was in bed lying on my side and felt my gown wet. The bag was leaking out the filter hole.
I really liked the new bag, mainly because it didn't have the tail clip closure. If I decide to go that route, I will probably order the same system without the filter. I have found that if I stay away from carbonated drinks that I don't have much gas buildup. Hope this helps...Randy

Sorry to hear about loosing your gallbladder. How long were you in there? I have had enough of hospitals for awhile. I was stuck at Mount Sinia for a month! I just received my order of Convatec filter bags inthe mail. I had ordered the high output drain, which was easier with the Holister bags. This cap is hard to pull open. I'll probably order the Invsiclose bags next time. I tried another brand, Holister or Coloplast, with the filter and there were no leaks. I don't trust the clip at all. My first ileostomy 15 years ago, I had a clip come loose. At least I was sitting on a leather sofa at home. I can't imagine it happening in public! I am counting the days to my take down!
Speedy recovery and take care, Barbara

Hi Barbie,
I had my ileostomy surgury on June 3rd. A week later I developed a hematoma. Had to go back in to have a drain placed in me. Had the drain for 6 weeks. Got the drain taken out, then had a gallbladded attack which required emergency surgury last Friday. I too, have had my share of the hospital for a while.
Hope all is going well with you. Take care, Randy

I tried a couple of different brands with the filter. They work until the first movement, then they are dirty and don't work. I didn't have any leaks, though. I will not be ordering them again.
