I am getting an ileostomy to let a fistula and abscess heal, and I am considering keep it, especially if next week's small bowel follow through reveals Crohns or if chronic pouchitis continues to be a problem. I was just wondering if anyone had tips on clothing that is less revealing of the bag, especially when taking the kids swimming and more intimate moments. Any input is appreciated!

For swimming, I would think swimtrunks would be fine. If I were a guy, I'd just wear it high enough to cover the bag. That's what I do with my pj shorts all the time. As far as regular clothes, denim and heavier material shorts/pants will hide your bag no problem. I can tell a bit of a bulge when I really need to empty, but if you're out and about, no one should notice unless they are really checking out your crotch area. I'd say for intimate moments, what's wrong with boxers? Coverage with easy access.

Also, the rash guard shirts that protect you from the sun can help...just get one that comes down a little longer - they are very fashionable now, so no one would think it strange if you wore one. I use closed end bags when I swim so there is no chance of a clip coming loose (has never happened to me in 8 years, but I don't want the first time to be in a pool!). You might want to look into an ostomy belt like the Phoenix one which would allow you to "bind" the bag up a bit so it isn't hanging freely in your trunks.

If I know I'll be swimming all day, or have limited bathroom access, I take an Immodium an hour before I head out so it slows things down and thickens things up. That reduces the # of times I need a bathroom.

Morning,

For Swimming with my son, I wear the SwimGard (same company as ShowerGard) with regular swim trunks and a sleeveless rashguard shirt-XL -I am a Large but the XL's are a bit looser, like a loose fit Underarmour shirt.
When wet, they cling a bit so the looseness helps. I take Immodum prior to swimming as well.

Nowadays many people wear rashgard & SPF shirts so you don't stand out at all.

I do wait til after I am done swimming to hit the BBQ grill for a gurger or steak as a bloated pouch/bag looks like you have a Zucchini strapped under your shirt -lol

Have fun
