Hi ,
I am having my take down in a couple of weeks. II had a lot of skin issues with my loop. Just wondering if those skin irritation marks will go away in time. I am thinking that the stoma scar is going to look way worse then the step 1 incision. Thanks Thanks Anthony Step 1of 2 -3/23/07 Step 2 of 2 -05/21/07 |

The skin only looks so bad because theres always that flange over it and the feces can irritate it because it can just sit there...i had a bit of skin irritation but it cleared right up after takedown. If your worried about it scaring you can put polysporin or something like that on it to heal

Hey Bluejay92, glad to see your almost through this. I have my take down soon and I have the same problem with irritation.
I wouldn't worry though, the skin has a tendency to heal itself over time, it might not be suddenly better, just needs time. Good luck with your second surgery, I bet your exited to see the end of it. |

My TD was in January and my stoma site is still very red. However, I'm confident it'll fade in time. The sore skin that bugged me all through the 4 1/2 months I had an ostomy did heal very fast after TD. Good luck! Also after TD you can lie in the bathtub and, afterwards, put healing cream on the sore skin, not worrying about an appliance falling off! Hooray!

Anthony,
I had a temp ileo before my jpouch in 2004, and that stoma site is barely visible now. There will be no scarring from irritation that stool causes around the stoma, this heals once air gets to it and your takedown is done. I now have a permanent ileo located below my first site, and I make sure to change my appliance often and use powder around the stoma to help it heal. Also when you change, if it isn't active (eating marshmallows 10 minutes before changing does wonders at stopping output!), leave the appliance off for an extra minute or 2, even an extra 30 seconds of air will help that skin heal. Hope this helps, Matt Tell 'em sammy two toes sent cha' |

My takedown scar is noticable, but not a big deal.
