Hi everyone, I was just wondering if most of you guys payed for you ostomy supplies, or if you health care/insurance cover most/all of it for you? Is it expensive?

My insurance gets a price reduction plus covers 90 percent...I ordered all kinds of stuff to try out and it cost very little. The pheonix belts were only 4 bucks.
Thing only thing my ins. did not cover was calmoseptine - so I bought a tube for regular price which was like 12.00
I ordered through Byram and they are always helpful.
hope this helps
David

I have Tricare and my ostomy supplies are covered 100%. You could always call your insurance and ask them.

I suggest that you call an ostomy supply co and get registered with them before your surgery. That way you won't be waiting at all (or too long) after your surgery when you really need supplies. You should see if they will send them in advance.
I think my insurance covered about 90% also. I have an HMO.

My insurance covered 100% of my needed supplies. They won’t cover the bag lubricant or a Phoenix Belt. I had to pay out of pocket for the belt (worth every penny IMHO), and just decided not to use the bag lubricant. Everything seems to be ok without it.

Insurance is completely coving 2 Phoenix ostomy belts a month! Just found out. Ordered two, which should be enough until my waist gets smaller, right on the boarder right now.

Thanks for the comments. Smiler

It seems like the lowest price ins. offers to pay is 90%, and that's not too bad. They should anyway - ostomy supplies aren't cheap; wafers tend to go for $140+

I have United Healthcare and they pay for just about everything. I think the only thing they haven't covered was prep wipes.

depends on the plan, United Health Care has many, that's who I have.
On the other hand I know someone else with UHC and no ostomy supplies are covered.
If there is a hardship I suggest contacting the company direct and they have patient assistance as do many pharmaceutical companies if you qualify.
