Hey, everyone! After a long ordeal with 2 failed pouches and spending the last 6 months with a drain from my rectum, I am very happy to report that I will be going in on Sept 4 to take all of the "junk" out, get my Barbie butt, and a permanent end ostomy. Hooray!!!! I am so excited. I cannot wait to be healthy =-) Question: will the end ostomy be larger than my current temp loop ostomy? I am just wondering about ordering supplies. I am at 7/8" right now and get Convatec moldable 7/8-1". Do you think these will still work? (this will be the removal of my 2nd j-pouch). Thanks, and can't wait to join the perm. ostomy club !!!!!!!

Hi Faith,

I would wait until after your op because your new end ileostomy will shrink with time too so you will probably not be able to use the same size that you are using now.

I also want to wish you good luck and fingers crossed for a smooth operation and an even smoother recovery. It really is great to be rid of all those "butt" problems.

Hugs

I would wait too. YOur hospital should be able to give you some samples to get you through till you can order supplies.

I know this has been a long road for you but you sound happy and ready to move on. I'll be thinking of you on your day and waiting to hear that all is well. We're happy to have you join us in the Barbie Butt club!

Congradulations and welcome to the relief. It sounds like you gave it your best shot. Now you are ready to accept the permanent part of the ostomy. I know, had not tried, always wondering if J-pouch would work. I am so glad to get that thing out, always full of infection, healed up quick and on with life. I swim, ski, bike, hike. Wishing you speedy recovery!

Hey Faith,

I just had my pouch removed in June and it took a while but I am finally doing really well. I agree you will need to wait to find what size your stoma will be. I went for about 1 3/4" to 7/8" but it took about 3-4 weeks for all the swelling to go down. You should get lots of samples from the hospital and if you call to ostomy companies they will send you even more. For a while you will probably just have to cut to size and then you can go back to buying the right size.

Good luck with your surgery. I hope you have an easy recovery with no complications.

Good luck! One thing I ended up doing with my pre-cut ostomy bags - I just cut them to make them a little larger so they were still good. Of course you can only do that going one direction (from smaller to larger), but it saved me some! My end ostomy was larger than my temporary ileostomy. It also worked soooo much better. Courage to you!
