Hi everyone,
I had step 1 of my 2 surgeries done on Jan2nd. Since then, the area right around my temp ileostomy, has become so raw. There is about a 1/8" ring of irritated skin that circles the stoma. Three quarters of it looks like BAD diaper rash, and the remaining quarter is open, and weeps on occasion. I am using a two piece Convatec system w/belt. Wipes to clean the skin, 3M barrrier spray. Drying skin between steps. Stomahesive powder and paste havn't helped. I know air is good healer, but now the rest of my skin is starting to get irritated from removing and replacing wafers and the tape that hold them. I hope this added discomfort isn't just another thing i'll have to deal with until my takedown. Any suggestions would be helpful. Monique |

A lot of people swear by Eakins seals. They are said to be very helpful with healing excoriated skin, like yours.
When the skin around my stoma looks a little irritated, I shake on plenty of Stomahesive powder, blow the excess off with a blowdryer, and use Stomahesive paste in a ring around the wafer opening. I find that the combination soothes the skin. Diagnosed with Chronic Ulcerative Colitis in 1986. First-step of 2-step j-pouch surgery January 9, 2006. Takedown June 16, 2008. |

I did th same thing as Rudolph, except I would use the barrier spay 3 coats over the powder and it seemed to really work for me. I also used the paste in a circle with a extra dab at 3 & 9 Oclock.
