I have a friend with a 5 yr. old who has an end ileo. She is having a really hard time getting a wafer to last even 2 days. She is using the Hollister New image line with an eakin. She recently dropped the barrier wipe as per Hollisters suggestion and now his skin is getting irritated. Since doing this she also has a new problem and that is the filter on the bag is leaking sometimes. She also has him wear his ostomy armor pretty much all of the time.
I use the same system and don’t have any problems nor have I ever in over 3 years had a filter leak. I know that every person is different and not all systems work for all people but I believe she has tried others with less success.
Any suggestions?

I would suggest she try different stuff.

I like coloplast. Many like Convatec.

They are always happy to send out samples.

It took me 6 weeks to find something that worked good for me.

Alot of trial and error.

Best of luck

It must be very difficult changing a bag on a 5 year old! God Bless You!! Try puting the Eakin seal on the flange and flatten it out. Warm the flange with a hair dryer to make it more sticky. Make sure the stoma is dry and use the ostomy powder next to the stoma, wiping away any loose powder. After applying the bag, hold your hand over it for a few minutes to set it, or use a hair dryer.

I tried filter bags and they leaked. I like to sleep on my side. Sugar also makes xtra gas so the bag will fill up faster and when the filter gets wet it stops woking good.

Hope this heps, good luck!

I had a terrible time with my stoma. I had to use a large eakin and two small eakins. I used paste and a belt. I heated a corn bag and put it on it for about 5 to 10 minutes after applying it. As far as my skin was concerned I put stoma powder on it and instead of the wipes sealant there is a spray you can buy works great and helps the seal (and doesn't burn). I did have a little leakage of the bag at the vent I would put the stickers that came with my convect bags on it but usually with me it didn't leak till after 3 days so we maybe talking different leaks. I also had to lay still for a couple of hours which will be very hard for a 5 year old. I had a miserable time with my ostomy and feel for a 5 year old having to deal with it. I hope this helps!!

I use cymed's micro skin pouch it comes in a small size which is why I like it but it is soooooo.. comfortable I don't even know it is there. I called and got a sample sent first to make sure I would like it. I love it, best of luck to you.
