I've searched and I can only find where people talk about their Stoma shrinking after surgery. I had my end Ileo done in October 2008. I've had zero problems since then and life has been great. I've noticed over the past few changes that the stoma has grown in size. Not just a little either. When the bag is off, It bends over and touches my belly. Is this normal? It looks great too me, I have no pain what so ever, the skin around it is great, I only change every 6-8 days. After surgery I weighed 175lbs, right now I weigh 205, so is it just growing with me? I also read that most people have trouble gaining weight with an ileo, but it obviously hasn't affected me. I'm eating more than ever before because I feel so good. The bag is always filling up, I empty at least 5-6 times a day. The wife is very worried, and of course I'm sick of doctors and I'm not about to call until I absolutely think I have to.
Thanks |

Sounds like it's prolapsed to me too. Keep an eye on it and if it gets longer then see your doctor.
Good luck and take care. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Well it's back to normal size, maybe a tiny bit smaller now! All I've done different is stopped using Peroxide for odor. That make sense?

It sounds like you may have developed an alergic reaction to the peroxide. Glad it's sorted itself out.

mine gets longer in size and mien has been re done 10 times just make sure its not to long if you think it may be then have the doc take a look it may be nothing but its worth asking.
One time mine was to long so they had to re do it because it always got stuck in between the bag then bleed . STEP 1 SEPT 20 2006 STEP2 MARCH 14 2007 UC JULY 16 2003 hernia scar revision and more march 22nd 2008 end up being step 1 all over again resections . may 10th infection in wound had to have surgey to open me back up sept 10th perma ostemy SO much for step2 14 operations in all due to UC ended up with open wounds as of july09 and perma ostemy not working out well. |

Well I guess I was wrong. I only see that sucker every 7-9 days now, I changed again this past week and it was large once again. So I put a clear back on, and when I wake up, it's tiny, into the morning it's larger. Very strange.

Randy, Wee Willie (my perminent end ileo) tends to retract and telescope quite a bit so he can go from being flush to the skin to a good 2 inches in length. I wear a convex wafer because when he's flush to the skin I will get leaks. Like you he is always much smaller in the morning and I think that is because as the day wears on he has more stool to deal with.
I think that this is just your normal peristalsis and nothing to worry about unless it gets really big. Have you tried the sugar trick to reduce your stoma's size? I know it sounds crazy but it really does work. Just dab some sugar over the stoma and it should shrink in size. This is because sugar is known to reduce edima (excess water) from the stoma. Good luck and take care. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Thanks for the info, I'll try the sugar thing, hopefully there's nothing else going on. I'll keep an eye on it.
