Has anyone used a fistula bag, basically a small one piece ostomy bag? I was wondering how long you left the appliance on? I was told I could leave it on 4-7 days, but I fell like I want to clean it. I wonder if I could irriate it safely? The holes are closing pretty quickly, but with the bag on it is hard to see.

Hi! Cataja
In Mount Sinia they put a weird clear disc shaped cover with a suction hose, over my incision which was draining puss. It is right next to my stoma more on the left lower abdomen. They determined it was most likely a fistula. The wound healed somewhat and they took it off, but a few days before my release, it started draining allot. I quess from all the movement. I had been laying in bed for about three weeks. After I got home, I was changing my bandage 5 times a day with them always leaking. I am sensative to tape and could only use Tagaderm or cloth tape that didn't hold well. So my home health nurse brought me some small one piece bags. There were only two big pea sized holes leaking constantly, so this was so much easier. Put it on with Eakin seals and just drain it every few hours, just like my ileostomy. I am down to one small pea size hole and a red healing spot. Still draining too much for bandaging several times a day. It might have to be closed surgically. Doc wants to do it the same time as the takedown, but I don't think I can wait. I would like to see the fistula healed before the taketown. Don't want things to get complicated again and end up inthe hospital a month! Take care, Barbara |

Hey, JEFF
I am using a one piece bag now, so I can't take it on and off everyday. I could always change to two piece, but it is almost healed, I hope. I end up changing it every 3-4 days, if I have a good seal. Did you have a fistula and for how long? Take care, Barbara |
