My stoma sticks out quite a bit,I am curious as to whether it can be damaged if I roll over on it or lay flat on my stomach or just bump into something. Anyone with any knowledge?

Hi Ed,

Wee Willie is normally about 1 1/2 inches long at full stretch, though he does tend to retract and telescope so can be longer or shorter on occasion. He is also sort of hooked over like a teapot spout which made placing a new wafer a bit of a challenge until I figured out a system. I don't have any problems and I am always rolling over onto my stomach in the night and I'm not particularly careful about bumping it during the day. I do wear a convex wafer though so he sort of sits in the cup of the wafer, which might offer some protection.

I wear fairly tight lycra underwear and close fitting skirts and jeans. He does get a bit squashed at times but it doesn't interfere with his function or cause any injuries.

I think they are more resiliant than you think.

edmc dont worry about it, I've managed to develope a 4" protuding hernia at the site of mine, (take a tip dont lift things lol)
the only thing you could do is dislodge your bag through excessive rolling around.

the worse is if someone decides for some unkown reason to shake hands with it Confused

Dislodge the bag.
I got up to change mine when I had it and didn't snap it together in my sleepy state, it filled with gas and at 2 am popped.
That was fun, outside in the dark with the hose before i could put the sheets in the washer.
make sure you hear that two piece click lock!

Shell:

Are you saying that your stoma sticks out 1 1/2 inches from your skin? I think my stoma is maybe 1/2 inch from my skin.

Hi Scott,

Yes, Wee Willie is that long. I very nearly called him Big Willie when I first saw him but fortunately he shrunk quite a bit over the months post op. Smiler
