Hey guys. I was just wondering if any of you had found the "perfect" bag or bag combination and what supplies you use with your bags? Right now I'm using a Hollister one peice (serial #8551) with the lock and roll seal and I love how low profile it is under my clothes and how easy it is to empty but find I can only get 2 days wear out of them if I'm lucky. So I need to find a new system because changing my bag every other day is driving me mental. Anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. I would perfer one peice or any other low profile bag

Thanks!

~Cindy

I found the convatec closed end filtered bag the easiest.2 piece , usually 4 days.
pop it off and pop on a new one. then empty and wash with warm water and soap, reuse if your ins won't pay, we just tossed them since ours did.chris also wore a smaller flange, he's very thin and his stoma was 5/8".
They will send samples call them direct for a starter kit and ask for that and a mini bag

Cindy - I use a convatec moldable durahesive skin barrier with hydrocolloid flexible collar, together with 1/2 an eakin seal and a closed end (no filter) cloth-type ostomy bag with disposal liners. The ring is fairly flat so I have a very low profile.

I wear fairly tight clothes and most of my pants are hip hugging type so I don't want the appliance to show. Although I do have white tape on the barrier rings, the ring itself is flat so it doesn't show through my clothes.

The ostomy bag with liner is great because the liners degrade in the septic system. I usually put liners in about a dozen or so bags so I'm all set for the day. Then I only let my bag get about 1/3 full. I simply unsnap the bag, slap some toilet paper over Mr. Stoma (to keep him from spitting), then wipe off Mr. Stoma and snap on a fresh bag. I get much more wear time out of the bags/pouch and feel fresher because I'm wiping off the poo from around the stoma each time I visit the potty.

I wear my system for about 6 days. My stoma is pretty small, about 3/4" diameter and about one to one and a half inches long. It sits really low on my belly and although I have a riduculous concave belly, I am able to get 6 days wearing because I add the 1/2 eakin seal to the mix.

Hope this helps. I don't use the one piece because I couldn't find one to fit my skinny stick body. Good luck to you.

Hi Cindy,

I combine Convatec's moldable Esteem Synergy wafers (which have an adhesive coupling) and team it up with Coloplast's Easiflex bags which also have an adhesive coupling. The reason I combine the two is because I really love the Coloplast bags but the wafers that go with them fall off me after just a couple of hours whereas Convatec's wafers are durahesive and really secure but the bags aren't quite as nice. Both makes are really low profile for a 2 piece.

You can get samples of both from their web sites.

Good luck with your search. Smiler

I'm a Coloplast girl all the way (currently the one piece Coloplast Assura (or Alterna depending on where you are).

HOWEVER, what works for one person may not work for you eg Hollister products falls off me after a couple of days, but many others swear by them. I get 7 days consistently from my one piece Coloplast bag, but others can't get on with them at all. You will find many different opinions of which are the best bags. The only way to find out which one is best FOR YOU is to get as many samples from the different manufacturers as you can and try them out.

Good luck.

Cindy,

I had similar issues.
I want a low-profile pouch under a suit and when playing/coaching sports.

Bear with me as you read through the below
I tried JasonPAs' steps/method-excellent,
My stoma/abdomen is a minefield, stoma is slightly above skin and scar tissue is like an upended cereal bowl.
I now use karaya powder, then cement (wish Smith & Nephew was still sold), then Eakins seal, then
a Hollister Flange (i like pre-cut)
and
here is the interesting trial and error part:
A Convatec pouch, covered/"fabric' both sides, with filter, velcro like closure for drainage.
Hollister convex/fabric stays on longer for me, is pretty flat, & Convatec pouches are very low profile (their flanges however are not-at least for me).
The reason for choosing the Filter Convatec pouches is they 'snap' on Holister flanges like they were made for it.
I use 7/8 hole-Hollister and 'smallest opening' on Convatec and it has worked well for me.

The one piece was ok but for extended wear like 2 piece ( can use smaller pouch for intimacy with my wife) and just change pouch if it splashes on fabric or starts to smell.

Good luck!

PS-try wearing the white belt that hooks on the loops of the pouch-it is very low profile and extends wear.

The tip on samples you read from other posters is great, I have gotten many samples and tested most.

Hey guys Thanks for all your advice. I have an end ileo now but I know that once I get the temp one its going to be alot more difficult to deal with, so I will change my bag system before then.

I know that some of you mentioned getting free samples online but I have tried many times before and never received them :S I live in Canada. Do they not ship samples here? or do they just not like my address lol
