Hi CoachE,
I don't post on here a whole lot but i have always found everyone to be very helpful. I hope you can help me now. I have a 5 year old with an ileo. After much trial and error we have found that the new image wafers from Hollister suit his skin best. We love the bags too for the most part but I find the velcro at the bottom could be better. (we don't do well with clips)The velcro on the convatec sur-fit natura drainable is so much better. It doesnt have the nice soft comfort side like the hollister but security seems more important as he enters school. So is ths the system you use and have you found any problems with it? Do they really snap together and stay that way well? Any insight you can give us would be helpful. One more thing, do you use the filters or not. The rep said they can leak. My son has an ileo with pretty much liquid output. Thanks for the help. Laura (son with Crohn's...ileo done 12/06...remicade etc....but doing great!!) Laura 6 y.o. son with CD -colectomy at age 3 with end ileo -IRA with loop ileo 8/08 remicade/elemental feedings |

Good morning,
Apologies for delayed reply, My son plays on 2 baseball teams and does Travel Hockey as well -so was busy 'living' and my PC 'died' about 5 weeks ago or so; so lost all my passwords... ------------------ I experimented with all brands and types of rigs. Received & tried the free samples from all manufacturers. Check my posts and especially JasonPa's (Obi-Won Kenobi) for a long step by step method. My abs went from a (on occasion/mostly/near) 6pack to a minefield, looks like a cracked bowl that is upside down and missing a piece (a Crevice or 2), nothing adhered for the first 4-6 weeks and I was very depressed. Now: I use Keraya powder (for aggravated skin and to prevent its return), then permatype cement, then an Eakins seal, then a Hollister 7/8 pre cut extended wear wafer (stays on better than Convatec if you have a misshapen bumpy area like me, then a Convatec 'snap-on' pouch with the velcro closure (Yes, I mix brands-Hollister lock and roll has a too-short tail for me and sticks out up top when full; KEY_I swab the same cement on the 'tupperware' seal prior to snapping in/on), then wear the 'white' belt; and have gotten up to 7 days though I average about 5 days Laura, My heart goes out to your son-feel free to "private message" me I do not like the filters-I generally wear a suit / shirt & tie for work-I am at clients a lot. The Hollister pouches and the Convatec with Filters tend to flop forward, I tried taping them down but that increases perspiration. You are correct, Convatec has plastic which can stick to your skin vs cloth Hollister. The longer tail and better velcro on Copnvatedc is worth it. I tuck the rolled up velcro end in my underwear for added support. As to liquid-my advice and that of many others here is marshmallows, bananas (start each day with one), and lots of rice-now I am very solid/sludgy, but for the 1st year I ate rice 3 times a day-mixed in eggs, mixed with shredded chicken and beef, in sloppy joes with ground beef, mixed in pasta, etc-really thickens it up. You can try Apple Pectin capsules-made from apples and is like Kaopectate-they expand to 2-3 times their size with fluid and slide out the stoma easily-advise only getting pre-made capsules-making your own is challenge Good Luck E |
