Tomorrow is my takedown surgery, I've had an ileostomy for 9 weeks now. And am happy to be done with it. I have had many problems with skin breakdown and I've had to change my bag every day for the last 7 weeks. Just to prevent further skin breakdown. I am able to look back at all the issues I've had with the ileostomy and laugh, which I guess is a good thing. I will always remember the night I was out for a bachelorette party. I was wearing a dress, and under the dress I had a pair of spanx (they have been a godsend to me). When I went to the restroom and pulled down my spanx, my bag detached from the wafer, spilling stool onto the bag and wafer. All I could do for a few seconds was stare in disbelief. Out of all the times for this to happen it had to happen now! Well I managed to get the bag back on, and cleaned up the stool as best I could. Luckily, I don't think it smelled. At around that time I realized that one of the ties from my dress was hanging down in the toilet and was completely soaked. At that point I just had to laugh.

Good luck on takedown...sounds like you are handling all of this really well...hopefully it is all going to be just a bad memory soon.
By the way...I always check the tail of my shirt, the belt and anything else that can trail into the bowl! Been there too often. Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here.... |
