My stoma (loop) has been the same for some time, now it seems to be coming out or longer than normal and a little larger. It is not sore or hurting, but it worries me that it may be loose? Is this a normal thing?

Grab mane and kick on!

Hi Julie,

I don't think you need to worry about your stoma coming loose. Smiler

Wee Willie (my perminent end ileo) often retracts and telescopes and sometimes appears fatter. He usually shrinks back on his own but sometimes if he doesn't (especially on wafer change days) I will use a trick that my good friend and stoma nurse Marlene taught me. I sprinkle some ordinary sugar on him and he shrinks back to size right before my eyes.

I know it sounds crazy, and I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but it really does work!

However, if you start to get any pain from your stoma or it changes colour (becomes very pale or dark red/black) then you should see your doctor asap. In fact it may be a good idea to have your stoma nurse or doctor take a look in any case if only to put your mind at rest.

Let me know how you get on.

Take care Smiler
