hi all. After almost 5 months with temp ileo, I'm still having problems finding the right appliance. I'm using a one piece convex coloplast assura pouch with an eakins seal. A couple of times during the last month I would spring a leak on the same day that I changed my bag-- and the leak is was in the same place both times -- where I have an indentation in my abdomen a little below my stoma. Maybe the eakins seal didn't fill in the indentation? Any suggestions from the experts out there?

You could try taking an extra eakin and pulling off a small piece to fill in the gap before you put a whole eakin on (you can flatten the piece of eakin, twist it and mold it to your skin shape). Or, you could try some paste to fill in the hole before the eakin.

In addition to JillM 's advice you might want to try and use a hair drier set on low to help the eakin adhere, at the same time you can press down (lightly) on the wafer and maybe get a better seal. Just a thought. Good luck.

I currently have a loop ileostomy and I also had some troubles with eakin seals in the beginning. A stoma nurse suggested that I warm up the eakin seal in my hand for a few minutes before putting it on... and I haven't had any trouble since! or you can heat it up with a hair drier like Hope17 suggested.... it allows it to really stick to all the curves of your skin! good luck!

I love the Eakin seals but found a whole one was just to much. I tear of maybe a little less than a quarter of one and then connect the sides again to make the circle and flatten it a little then put it around the stoma. When I used the whole seal it was too thick and caused leaks.

I put the eakin ring right onto the wafer. I spread it out so that the layer is thin and since I've switched to the ring from the stomahesive paste I have had much better luck.

Make sure everything is really dry. I used eakins and never had an issue, they were wonderful. Good luck,

Try putting Keraya powder on your 'circle' that would be under the flange, thin layer, put a bit of TP on the stoma so it doesn't get any irritation form the powder, then put some cement-much better than paste, I use "perm-type' surgical cement around the stoma, let dry 4-5 minutes Then apply the Eakins seal.

I was really depressed and frustrated about this and the above process really helped.
I get a good 5 days with this.
No skin irritation, any residue comes off in the shower or with the removal wipes
