i've been on flagyl and corticosteroid suppositories for my pouchitis for a month now..how much longer will they keep me on it?..will it be a long term maintenance med? ..i also noticed tht if i miss a dose or two i start to experience minor joint pain..is it the medicine keeping the pain at bay? or is that just a manifestation of the pouchitis re-acting up for missing meds?

I have been on flagyl and Cipro for about 6 weeks now. If I stop taking them I start to get achy, more frequent and loose stools, etc.

Even if I miss a dose I notice things start acting up.

Some docs will have you on them for a couple of months then have you stop taking the medication to see if you still need it. My GI guy said that if things start up again after this round of antibiotics then he'll most likely have to put me on a lower dose for a longer period.

It isn't good to be on Flagyl long term because of all the side effects.
