Levaquin has worked for me also. It seems that there are less side effects also. Bill

Levaquin is in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) - quinolone antibiotics - so most in this class are likely to help with pouchitis if one works for you. They have similar side effect profiles but some can tolerate one better than another. Sometimes when one stops working it helps to try another.

I couldn't take Levaquin, but could take Cipro, so side effects are different for me. (But as you know there are individual differences in responses to meds.) Levaquin made me very irritable and gave me nightmares (look it up, strange dreams is one of the rare side effects). Cipro was better. It made me feel tired all the time, but it was better than the bad mood and nightmares. So it seems as though even if a drug is in the same class, it can produce different side effects.

Cipro and Lev are in the same class and are very similar with similar general side effect profiles, however they are not identical. People respond differently to different drugs as well. So it is definitely worth trying one or another unless you had an allergic reaction to one - then you are likely to be allergic to all in the class. But as Maverick said, he was able to take one and not the other. They are different drugs, and people also respond differently. So I wouldn't rule anything out.
