I think I may have pouchitis! I posted last night in the general forum and from the responses I got they say it sounds like pouchitis. I have the urgency to go (but can't alway produce something), watery stool, and now I have night time leakage which I've never had a problem with in the past.

My questions is what should I do??? I've just called my doctor and she is out of town. The nurse said she'd put a note on my chart and have her call me back, but now I have no idea when that will be! Are there things I can take or do that doesn't need a perscription?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
Jessica

You don't want to sit through the weekend with pouchitis. Call back and ask for whoever is covering to either see you or phone in an order for Cipro or Flagyl for suspected pouchitis. It is typical to diagnose and treat based on symptoms, at least at first. If that doesn't work, go to urgent care.

Bring in an article about pouchitis if you need to.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

jbarnes,

I have been through the same symptoms. The feeling of urgency coupled with an inability to produce anything I characterize as "incomplete evacuation." There is really not much you can do, except it is important not to strain too hard as that could lead to other problems. You may want to try leaning left or right as you try to produce something; occasionally this kind of shifting helps, as does standing up and then sitting down. Ultimately, however, you will likely need a prescription for cipro and/or flagyl to alleviate these symptoms. Good luck, and don't let it get you too stressed. I have been through these symptoms you are having many times in the past 15 years and they resolved with antibiotic treatment, so don't worry.
