Warts/Yeast Infections Due To Long Term Antibiotic UseGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I forgot to mention that back in 2010 when I had a terrible yeast infection start in my legpits, which was eventually knocked out, I simultaneously developed several warts - also in my legpits. My dermatologist told me that those taking antibiotics long term are prone to warts, which are caused by a virus, for the same reason that they are prone to fungal infections: killing off the bacteria in the skin allows these other microorganisms to flourish. The two warts I had in 2010 were quickly eradicated by freezing them with liquid nitrogen in one shot, but it took months to get rid of the yeast infection. It looks like I have had one of the warts come back. Same area where the other ones were, in my right legpit. Looks like I will be seeing my dermatologist for the 1st time in 1.5 years since we got rid of the yeast infection. Honestly I am a bit surprised because I am keeping that area dry and warts, like fungi, need moisture to thrive and grow. It's really small though, so it has not had room to grow like the two we got rid of in 2010.This message has been edited. DJBHusky, I have been fighting a yeast infection in my legpits for months. What did your doctor give you that finally worked? You may find it odd, but I have been having pretty good luck with Oil of Oregano. I have to dilute it coconut oil but it is working, just taking a long time. Mark

Mark, The antifungal creams failed to help the yeast infection in my legpits, because they are all moist and contain water, and anything with water in it feeds the fungi the moisture they need to thrive. Here is what worked: 1. My dermatologist prescribed an antifungal pill which I took twice a week apart. It's called Fluconazole. I believe that there may be other names for it. Rapid improvement began about a week after taking it. 2. I rotated off cipro/flagyl onto xifaxin which does not get absorbed systemically, thus enabling your skin's bacteria count to recover somewhat. 3. Copious blow drying of the legpits after showering, using a blow dryer. You have to keep the area dry! 4. Application of antifungal powder after blow drying the affected areas (Zeabsorb AF is what I use). I am convinced that keeping the legpits dry is the key thing as that has kept the yeast infection away for a year and a half. The reason the legpits is where we are getting the yeast infection in the first place is because that is where moisture collects. Mark it took me about 3 or 4 months to get rid of that yeast infection but steps 1-4 above worked! Good luck with your fight. You will win but it takes time! This message has been edited. I've been dealing with Thrush since about a month after starting antibiotics. I wish I could find a way to get rid of it besides stopping the anitbiotics. www.lifeisapotty.blogspot.com C-diff: 3/2001 UC Diagnosis: Summer 2002 Step 1: 9/10/10 Step 2: 12/8/10 Cuffitis: 2/2011 Chronic Pouchitis: 11/2011

Not sure how it is manifesting with you, but the symptoms I get are a black or brownish/yellow coating on my tongue. I simply brush my tongue and it brushes right off, and the tongue then returns to its normal, healthy pinkish coloring. What is weird is the different coloring, sometimes brownish/yellow, sometimes black like mold. More recently, taking cipro, it has been a black coating on my tongue. It seems pretty harmless, and is mostly cosmetically an issue more than anything else. But like I said I can just brush it off using my tootbrush. Interesting corelation between the warts and the antibiotics...never knew....I get occasional skin tags in the same spots and just have them burned off or do it myself with a silvernitrate stick...painless and effective. Here there is a homeopathic remedy that gets rid of them rather well but it is a very long treatment...my old GP gave it to me and they just dropped off and didn't come back for about 10yrs...The manufacturer is Lehning I think (a German company?) and they make a series of meds for colds/flus (L52), diareah, constipation, digestive pain, burning etc and an amazing range of problems and they seem to work well if not just slower than the commercial chemicals. Worth a try for thrush, yeast etc. Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Sharon, Regarding warts, I have tried the various commercially sold formula acids that are available to burn warts off, and they did not work. I think they all use salicyllic acid. Also, it is dangerous and possibly reckless for a man to play around with acids in or near the area of his groin/penis/testicles. If you accidentally spill even the not-so-powerful commercially sold, over the counter acids on these private parts, I doubt it would be much fun. If the wart was on my fingers or toes I would be inclined to experiment a bit more aggressively, but I don't like fooling around in the area under discussion. My dermatologist uses liquid nitrogen for the warts. That was effective last time. In the past I had plantars warts on my feet from walking around the beaches in Jamaica, and those got very large very quickly and my dermatologist had to use a very powerful acid to burn them off, which hurt like hell but eradicated the plantars warts. I could not get an appointment with him until December 7 so let's hope it does not grow too much between now and then. DJBHusky - My thrush started out white, but then turned black. I've tried brushing and scraping with my fingernail. It gets some off, but not all. I've also tried otc mouthwash with no luck. Was wondering if there was some prescription mouthwash that would get rid of the yeast. It doesn't effect anything, and is just cosmetic. But who wants a black tongue. I feel people will think I don't brush my teeth! www.lifeisapotty.blogspot.com C-diff: 3/2001 UC Diagnosis: Summer 2002 Step 1: 9/10/10 Step 2: 12/8/10 Cuffitis: 2/2011 Chronic Pouchitis: 11/2011

Karbear, Brush it with toothpaste and a tooth brush as you would your teeth. Use really aggressive strokes brushing from front to back of tongue and then back to front, for as far as it is visible. If you brush it really aggressively with a good toothbrush it should all come off. You have to work at it, it takes a few minutes. I had this issue come up this past weekend because I had a dinner date and my tongue was black as the ace of spades. But I got it all out. This message has been edited. Frustrating, all that happens with me is a bloody tongue. It is slowly going away though. www.lifeisapotty.blogspot.com C-diff: 3/2001 UC Diagnosis: Summer 2002 Step 1: 9/10/10 Step 2: 12/8/10 Cuffitis: 2/2011 Chronic Pouchitis: 11/2011

Karbear, I have never had any bleeding brushing my tongue. I have always been able to brush away the thrush, using toothpaste and a good toothbrush. Maybe you should use a medium or soft toothbrush. Keep trying different brushes and techniques until you find one that works. This is not something you really should have to deal with. I am not sure if there is such a thing as an antifungal mouthwash? There would be no market for such a product except the very few people, like us, who take long term antibiotics. You might want to ask your dentist for ideas. The yeast infections on the skin are much trickier to deal with. Keep an eye on your legpits if you are getting the thrush. Thanks for the advice DJBHusky. You have been so helpful to me since I have had my battle with pouchitis. I will have to look into getting a new toothbrush. www.lifeisapotty.blogspot.com C-diff: 3/2001 UC Diagnosis: Summer 2002 Step 1: 9/10/10 Step 2: 12/8/10 Cuffitis: 2/2011 Chronic Pouchitis: 11/2011

Karbear/DJB...have you used the Nystatin mouth rinse? Gets rid of thrush very quickly. total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11

Sorry if I'm dense, but what is a leg pit? The area behind your knee or where your leg joins your groin area? total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11

I am using "legpit" to describe the area where the leg joins the groin area. This is where my terrible yeast infection started in 2010 (both legpits). It is an area where moisture can collect and accumulate just as with the armpits. Thanks for the tip on Nystatin Mouth Rinse.
