Hi all. I had pouchitis about two-three weeks ago. My typical symptoms, increase frequency and urgency, had to get up once or twice a night (I normally don't get up at all), naseaus after eating, and my signal - cramping after eating (then I really know I have it). The cramping is below the breasts in between the ribs. I took flagyl for 12 days, ten never does it for me and I ran out of pills to go the full two weeks. I took two pills twice a day, sorry can't remember the dose.
Anyway my question is it seems like the course of antibiotics didn't quite cut it. Now I am unsure what to request from the doctor. Do I just go for the cipro or try a full two weeks of the flagyl? Basically some of my symptoms are returning, increased frequency and urgency and feeling naseaus after eating. Any advise would be appreciated, thank you. |

My first course of flagyl ran for 6 weeks. I'm not sure what the norm is, except maybe there isn't one?

My doc prescribes Levaquin for my pouchitis. I usually stay on 500mg for 2 to 4 weeks. There are no side effects from this antibiotic. I can't take Cipro. I also take Librax for the spasms & cramps. Good Luck!

Sonja,
Follow your anti-biotics with an agressive dose of pro-biotics like vls#3 2 to 4 packs a day for a week, then reduce by 50 percent. It is inportant to keep the colony of good bacteria alive and well. Then I'd stay on a pack or two a day (I've been doing that for three years, and pouch now runs perfectly. |
