I have had the J-Pouch for two years. My problem is at night. I'm geeting little sleep as I have to run to the toilet every one to two hours. When I feel the urge is gone, I go back to sleep until the urge hits again. This not only disturbs my slumber but my wife's sleep too!

I don't have this problem during the day, when I'm not lying down in bed. I may go 2 - 3 times during my waking hours.

It doesn't seem to matter when I eat in the evening or what I eat - I am up 6 - 8 times with very small b.m.'s

Probiotics exaccebate the problem, but fiber supplements during the day help keep me comfortable while I'm up.

Those symptoms sound unusual to me. I'd rather go 6-8 times during the day and 2-3 times at night (and even that would be rather bad pouch performance). I assume you are not taking meds like Lomotil or Imodium.

Maybe you are slowing things down too much during the day with the fiber supplements (how much of what, when?), and that is causing gas to build up all day as everything ferments. Then at night maybe you are not able to pass that gas on the toilet very easily. In my experience, gas trapped in the pouch causes frequent urgency, which can be relieved only by lying down (or some similar position with the body weight off of the pelvic area) to pass that gas. Another suggestion would be to cut back on the fiber.

im having the same problem! i never used to get up so much at night but now i do! my G.I. looked in my jpouch and says it looks awesome and i dont have pouchitis right now...he says my bowels are more active at night, plus i am having spasms ...either from my fissure or fistula that are still healing...and the only thing that has helped my spasms at all is using a nitroglycerin/hydrocortisone paste twice a day. you should get scoped in case it is pouchitis and then you might need some antibiotics. when i did have pouchitis, it was always way worse at night. i never seem to have issues during the day.

take care
