Hey..

I am sure I have pouchitis now. No matter what i eat, I have runny stools, cramping, and urgency. I was just wondering what the dose of cipro and flagyl would be? what are the typical doses? I was hoping to ask my GP for a script if my surgeon doesn't get back to me!

thanks

I don't know if there is a 'set' dose for someone with pouchitis. I am on 500mg of Flagyl three times a day and 1000mg of Cipro twice a day for two - three months. I stopped taking the meds and things started up again so my GI wants me to keep taking them for a while longer.

Hope you can get the answers you need.

First time around, it is best to go with a low dose, such as Flagyl 250mg three times a day for 10 days. If you get no effect in around three days, call to get an increased dose, 500mg. For me, I saw a dramatic improvement just hours after my first dose of 250mg. I believe that Cipro is usually prescribed twice a day, 500mg.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Hey Blowe!
Any luck with either of the docs getting you a prescription for the antibiotics? I hope you have started treatment so that your graduation can go without a hitch! Keep in touch.

I spoke to my family doctor today, and he was VERY sympathetic. He obviously respects me as a patient, which is something I appreciate. He gave me cipro and flagyl but only two tablets a day of each. So the flagyl dose might be a little low (500mg). Is that low? Does that work for most?

I must say that it had immediate effects. I lost some urgency, pain, cramping, and feel better overall. I am still working on the appetite and energy. It's only been one dose, so I wasn't expecting too much.

Thank you Michele R for your concern. i'm optimistic.
